FANTASY FORECAST 2018/19: FPL Gameweek 37

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League, The Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Special Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 37 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We ask the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The three members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead.

For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties that will feature throughout the season.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Liverpool (A) vs. Newcastle

Chelsea (H) vs. Watford

Man United (A) vs. Huddersfield

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Liverpool (A) vs. Newcastle

Man United (A) vs. Huddersfield

Arsenal (H) vs. Brighton

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: Despite a humbling at the Nou Camp by Barcelona, I think Liverpool still have everything to fight for against Newcastle. Despite Newcastle having a good record at home, I don’t think they’ll be able to compete with Liverpool this weekend.

Leicester: I think Leicester are going to have a real go at Man City on Monday night, it could be a fresh twist in the title race. Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans have an insane return percentage, and if there is anyone to undo Man City’s season, then it is the underdog and former champions, Leicester City.

Wolves: The final home game of the season for Wolves should be a big hit for their fans upon a successful return to the Premier League. I think they are going to try and give their fans a big send off, and against Fulham, you will fancy their chances.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Spurs: The North Londoners may have one eye on their Champions League second leg against Ajax, and Bournemouth isn’t exactly a team of pushovers.

Man City: This is my last hurrah as a Liverpool supporter to hope for the best, I really think that this is the last big hurdle for Man City, and the stars have aligned with Brendan Rodgers returning to the Premier League for one final plot twist to the Premier League title race.

GW Differential Picks:

Youri Tielemans, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Henderson, and Will Norris of all people are the differentials on my radar this gameweek.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Raul Jimenez – With Wolves set to go big on their final home game, I am banking on final big return from their star Mexican striker.

(VC): Sadio Mane – Liverpool are set for one hell of a week, and that starts against Newcastle. Newcastle’s left is a lot weaker than their right, and I can see Mane proving to be too much for the Toon. Salah will be the one Newcastle have their eye on, but it will be Mane they will most likely forget.

Other Gameweek Comments:

This penultimate gameweek of the season sees the last captaincy options of the season disappear in the finale gameweek. In many ways, this is the deciding gameweek for many players in their respective leagues, as normally the last gameweek is a way to consolidate your winnings. I wish you luck in what may be the most important gameweek for most players in the FPL.

I myself am behind in my own mini-league, and that means I will need all the luck in the world.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Newcastle: Rafa might be the one to end Liverpool's league hopes in the same week that the Red's Champions League season looks in tatters too. And yes, I'm a Newcastle fan who wants Liverpool to win the league.

Leicester: Is this the game that could gift Liverpool their ultimate opportunity?

Bournemouth: Spurs will rest players, which might open the door for Bournemouth to cherry pick a result at the weekend.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Arsenal & Chelsea: An English Europa League final looks likely after Arsenal's 3-1 win against Valencia, and Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Frankfurt. I'd bet on rotation for both teams.

Everton: When you want to bank on them in a home game against a team below them in the table, Everton concede.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Sergio Aguero – One last home game of the season is the perfect occasion to negate the other Fantasy managers around you. The safe pick and probably the right choice given Liverpool will have one eye on overcoming their 3-0 deficit against Barcelona.

(VC) Raul Jimenez – My heart really wants to captain Raul, though rotation fears from Nuno have curbed any potential reality. What an option though, even if Fulham are riding a high.

Other Gameweek Comments:

I really can't believe that this is the penultimate Gameweek of the season. This campaign has come and gone far too quickly, even if it has appeared to be a long season for a lot of players in the FPL Community.

Who are your essential Gameweek player picks?:

Aguero (MCI): Home is where he likes to score his goals (75% of them). His form has picked up – having the game-winner against Burnley last week. We expect him to take his play to another level this week.

Vardy (LEI): With 5 goals and an assist against the top 6 this season, he’s not one to shy away from a big game. In his last 9 games, he has 10 goals and 2 assists, including 2 goals against Arsenal last week.

Van Dijk (LIV): Liverpool have only conceded 10 away goals all season. VVD has the highest BPS among all defenders, so bonus points are usually a good possibility. And while he didn’t get in on the attacking returns action that his fellow defenders did last week, there’s always the chance he’ll knock in a corner.

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Wilson (BOU): If there’s any merit to the concept of “form over fixtures”, it seems to apply well in his case. 3 goals, 3 assists in his last 3 games. With Spurs having a bit of a leaky defense recently, there’s a real chance of Wilson having goal involvement.

Digne (EVE): Low ownership, clean sheets in 3 out of his last 4 games and 31 FPL points over that same timeframe make him a tempting difference maker.

Redmond (SOU): Over the last 3 games, he’s landed himself in the top 3 xG and xA spots within his team. And with the increase in Southampton’s goal output, there’s opportunity for him to see some attacking returns.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: On fire on both ends of the pitch. Their scary good at the moment.

Leicester: 5 goals in their last 2 games, including a thrashing of Arsenal last week.

Man City: Championship teams find ways to win when it counts. These guys are reigning champs for a reason.

Fulham: They come into Week 37 on a 3-game win streak.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Manchester United: 3 losses and a draw in their last 5 games. 1 goal scored in their last 3. They look a bit out of sorts.

Spurs: Similar to Man U, they’re not playing inspired football. They’ve lost their last 2, including a UCL home game. They might be focused on the second leg of the UCL series and lose sight of this weekend’s PL game.

GW Differential Picks:

Tielemans (LEI): Directly involved in 8 goals over this 8-game stretch. Still under 2% ownership.

Digne (EVE): On a bit of a clean sheet run and always an attacking threat.

Jota (WOL): Directly involved in 17 goals this season, including 3 in the last 2 games. The definition of a differential.

Sane (MCI): A bit of a gamble that he’ll start, but he’s explosive enough to provide returns in limited minutes.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Salah – His lost form has been found, and is on the rise with 2 goals and an assist last week. Expect him to dazzle at Newcastle.

(VC) Mane – Liverpool will score goals this weekend. If Mo’s not involved, then it’ll be Mane.

Other Gameweek Comments:

  • Despite an arguably more difficult matchup than title rivals Liverpool, don’t sleep on Aguero or Sterling. They can bang in goals with the best of ‘em.

  • There are some great viable differential options, including the ones mentioned above. For managers looking for separation or breaking away from the template, differentials are their solution.
