POWER RANKINGS 2018/19: The Aftermath of FPL Gameweek 13
After the dust has settled in a round of Premier League fixtures, we here at The Hype Train provide a post-mortem in the shape of our Power Rankings. We highlight the five key performers for FPL players in each position (GK/DEF/MID/FOR), with our selections based off of our own opinion of in-game performance and the end result with Fantasy points on the board. All aboard.
Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 14 Deadline
For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.
GW13 POWER RANKINGS: Goalkeeper Picks
New entries: Jonas Lossl (HUD)
Falling out: Mat Ryan (BHA)
There were clean sheets this past weekend for our podium places in goal, with Jordan Pickford, Ederson and Alisson all keeping clean sheets. Pickford's fine form keeps the England international in top spot, though a visit to Merseyside rivals Liverpool could provide a shuffle of places after Gameweek's 14 and 15.
Jonas Lossl is the only inclusion after keeping 2 clean sheets in 3 matches, whilst Martin Dubravka's 3 points at Burnley is enough to see him keep his place, with David de Gea and Wayne Hennessey the only other Goalkeepers to keep clean sheets this weekend.
GW13 POWER RANKINGS: Defender Picks
New entries: Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV), Michael Keane (EVE)
Falling out: Ben Chilwell (LEI), Antonio Rudiger (CHE)
We've seen some shift with our defensive picks in recent weeks, and after Gameweek 13 the deck is shuffled yet again. With five key defensive assets - Alonso, Robertson, Mendy, Trippier and Doherty - seemingly unbreakable for much of the first 10 round of games this season, we find ourselves with a trio of Merseyside defenders.
Andrew Robertson regains top spot after ticking along nicely with a clean sheet against Watford, whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold scored his first goal of the season to rocket into our Power Rankings.
Aymeric Laporte is Man City's solid defensive asset and provided another half-batch of points for the 8th time this season, whilst Everton's Michael Keane now has 11 bonus points this season after keeping a 3rd clean sheet in 5 fixtures.
GW13 POWER RANKINGS: Midfielder Picks
New entries: Gylfi Sigurdsson (EVE), David Silva (MCI)
Falling out: Ryan Fraser (BOU), Eden Hazard (CHE)
After impressive starts to the season, time has come for Eden Hazard and Ryan Fraser to step aside for players who have rocketed into form, and there is no better example of this than David Silva. The Spaniard has goals in a trio of back-to-back Premier League matches and continued a glittering scoring spree going against West Ham. Raheem Sterling, who also scored in that match, is the most likely player to first reach 100 points this season. Sterling's is well and truly riding a wave of hype that will ride into a home encounter with Bournemouth this weekend (where Pep Guardiola will most likely roll a dice on his inclusion).
One other player we're really happy for is Mohamed Salah. There's nothing worse than negativity online, with Salah painted in the same brush as Harry Kane. This so called 'one season wonder' has scored in 7 of his 13 league games this season, which includes goals in 4 of his last 5 league matches. If it had not been for some massive scored from Sterling, Salah would be sitting pretty at the top of FPL contention, regardless of his price.
Another midfielder who is going steady is Gylfi Sigurdsson. 5 goals and 1 assist in his last 7 Premier League matches highlights his importance to Everton. Playing as the 'number 10' has greatly aided Gylfi's cause this season and is one example of 'set and forget' with great set-piece potential.
Anthony Martial rounds off the midfield picks, despite not scoring or assisting against Crystal Palace, though his form in recent weeks won't be overlooked, especially given that Man United travel to lowly Southampton this weekend.
GW13 POWER RANKINGS: Forward Picks
New entries: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ARS)
Falling out: Alexandre Lacazette (ARS)
With little consistency in Forward's this season, we're having to make do with 3 players who failed to score or assist this past week, but have had decent seasons to back up their appeal. Sergio Aguero and Callum Wilson are the template Forward partnership for Fantasy players, but many a million were let down by both during Gameweek 13.
They'd both be ousted from the top slots had there been some real contention, but many of the Forward's scoring this past week - Jamie Vardy, Roberto Firmino and Alexsander Mitrovic - have only begun scoring again after lengthy dry spells without a goal or assist to their names.
Harry Kane is one who Forward who is usually a trio of FPL returns quite loosely. Kane's scored or assisted in each of his last 3 games, averaging 18 points (6 points-per-game) in that time to mount a podium charge, whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended a streak of 2 goals without a goal to help fill the void of Alexandre Lacazette's omission in a 2-1 away victory at Bournemouth.
