FPL Gameweek 14: Goalkeeper Selections
1) Ederson (MCI): £5.8m - vs. Bournemouth (H)
2) Alisson (LIV): £5.7m - vs. Everton (H)
3) Jonas Lossl (HUD): £4.4m - vs. Brighton (H)
4) Martin Dubravka (NEW): £5.0m - vs. West Ham (H)
5) Wayne Hennessey (CRY): £4.5m - vs. Burnley (H)
Home delight is the order of the day and there's no surprise that the Brazilian duo both top Fantasy contention this weekend. Ederson and Alisson both kept clean sheets last weekend and with City hosting Bournemouth and Liverpool entertaining Everton in the Merseyside derby, there's no doubting that the premium stoppers are at the top of the reckoning.
Down the price bracket there are some very good home options this week. With 2 clean sheets from 3 matches in a new formation have bolstered Huddersfield's defensive potential, with Jonas Lossl gaining 6 points against Fulham (GW11) and Wolves (GW13). Lossl hasn't made 3 saves in 3 games, and that'll likely be the case this weekend with Brighton visiting town.
Martin Dubravka's 3 points against Burnley could have been more, with the Slovakian shot-stopper caught off his line for Sam Vokes's lone goal against Newcastle. West Ham have a few injury doubts to key players such as Marko Arnautovic, but in general Newcastle have won 4 of their last 5 games against The Hammers.
Meanwhile, Wayne Hennessey kept a first clean sheet since Gameweek 6's 0-0 home draw against Newcastle when Palace shut-out Man United at Old Trafford. Hennessey's 10 points is his biggest points haul from a single Gameweek and a game against goal-shy Burnley is the perfect opportunity for back-to-back clean sheets.
FPL Gameweek 14: Defender Selections
1) Marcos Alonso (CHE): £7.1m - vs. Fulham (H)
2) Andrew Robertson (LIV): £6.5m - vs. Everton (H)
3) Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV): £5.2m - vs. Everton (H)
4) Virgil van Dijk (LIV): £6.0m - vs. Everton (H)
5) Aymeric Laporte (MCI): £6.1m - vs. Bournemouth (H)
6) Chris Schindler (HUD): £4.3m - vs. Brighton (H)
7) Aaron Win-Bissaka (CRY): £4.3m - vs. Burnley (H)
8) Benjamin Chilwell (LEI): £5.1m - vs. Watford (H)
9) Matt Doherty (WOL): £4.9m - vs. Cardiff (a)
10) Cesar Azpilicueta (CHE): £6.3m - vs. Fulham (H)
Home fixtures are where FPL players will look with weekend, with Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool all on home soil, and largely, that's where our picks lay this week. At the top and bottom of of our picks are two Chelsea defenders who had contrasting fortunes from a Fantasy perspective during Gameweek 13. Marcos Alonso's single point is his worst away performance of the season, whilst there was some reward for FPL veteran, Cesar Azpilicueta, who assisted Olivier Giroud's concellation header at Wembley in a defeat to Spurs.
European games aside, the Liverpool assets look strong and steady heading into Sunday's Merseyside derby. Everton don't typically score many goals at Anfield so any combination of Virgil, Robbo or TAA should do just nicely this week, though Alexander-Arnold's set-piece potential has seen him rise in FPL fame and popularity ahead of this weekend.
Rounding off the top-half picks is our only Man City defensive asset, Aymeric Laporte. The Spaniard has played every minute of the Premier League season so far, and with Ederson is the only City defensive asset to play every minute. Odds are literally in Laporte's favour to earn another 6 points this weekend.
Chris Schindler is the best of the rest this week. With a goal and an assist at home this season, Schindler is a dominate force in both boxes, a bonus points magnet, incredibly good value for money, and has some favourable home fixtures in the offing. Brighton typically struggle on the road and with Huddersfield's new 3-6-1 formation off to a good start, a 4th clean sheet of the season wouldn't be out of reach this week.
The remaining picks are full-backs who are popular, with Fantasy players hoping that their faith will be rewarded. Wan-Bissaka's 26.7% of owners most likely had the right-back on the bench against United in a 0-0 draw, whilst the same owners played Matt Doherty to no avail. Ben Chilwell's good fixtures continue with low-scoring Watford coming to town. All three are popular picks with a point to prove.
FPL Gameweek 14: Midfielder Selections
1) Raheem Sterling (MCI): £11.3m - vs. Bournemouth (H)
2) Mohamed Salah (LIV): £13.0m - vs. Everton (H)
3) Leroy Sane (MCI): £9.3m - vs. Bournemouth (H)
4) Sadio Mane (LIV): £9.9m - vs. Everton (H)
5) David Silva (MCI): £8.6m - vs. Bournemouth (H)
6) Eden Hazard (CHE): £11.2m - vs. Fulham (H)
7) Dele Alli (TOT): £8.9m - vs. Arsenal (a)
8) Anthony Martial (MUN): £7.6m - vs. Southampton (a)
9) Callum Paterson (CAR): £5.2m - vs. Wolves (H)
10) Aaron Mooy (HUD): £5.1m - vs. Brighton (H)
It's the season of rotation for sure, with Premier League clubs facing midweek games on the 4th and 5th of December, with European football sandwiched in between for the 'Top 6' in the league - this means that all of our top picks come with a pinch of salt, and that is no word of a lie with both Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane in podium positions this week.
Raheem Sterling has managed 45 points (an average of 11.25 points-per-game) over the course of the last 4 Gameweek's, scoring 3 goals, assisting 5 goals and earning 5 bonus points in that time. It's taken the Englishman to the heights of the top Fantasy player heading into Gameweek 14, though City have to navigate a tricky away tie at Lyon in order to secure qualification to the knockout rounds of the Champions League, so we think the priority lies with Tuesday night, though there should should be enough time to have the wingers-supreme in Sterling and Sane firing ahead of a home tie against a Bournemouth side who have recently lost to both Man United and Arsenal at home.
The other typical suspects that see the light of day this week are Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with both certainties to start this weekend's Merseyside derby against Everton, that is if they both come out of Wednesday's all-important clash at PSG unharmed. Last season, Klopp played weakened sides in both league fixtures against Everton, with Liverpool drawing both games, so there is another word of caution in case lightning strikes twice.
After scoring 7 goals in the opening 8 Premier League games of the season, Eden Hazard has failed to score in Chelsea's last 5 league matches, managing just 1 assist in that time. Hazard's delicious home fixture against Fulham isn't enough for us to have the Belgian at the top of contention this week. Hazard is the most transferred out player leading into Gameweek 14 as the magic form that started the season is well and truly over, especially with another injury niggle to his ankle this week - that said we'd be idiots not to include Hazard in case all works out well this week for The Blues.
In the middle of the pack we see Dele Alli and Anthony Martial acting as rare inclusions by away players this week. Alli double his goals and assists tally in Spurs's demolition of Chelsea this past weekend and is our front-runner of contention ahead of Son and Eriksen as Spurs visit Arsenal - a fixture which will delight Man City and Liverpool ahead of them.
Meanwhile, Martial was a shadow of his recent form as Romelu Lukaku returned to the starting United side in a laboured 0-0 home draw with Crystal Palace. The smell of rotation lingers strongly with the Frenchman as Man United take on Young Boys at Old Trafford, though with Southampton on the road, this is surely one to bank Martial on as Mark Hughes plummets towards the unemployment line.
We round up our midfield picks with surprise inclusions. Cardiff's Callum Paterson has scored all 3 of his goals, and managed his 1 assist, in his last 5 league matches, with this form most enough to tempt us to bank on Paterson as a struggling Wolves side visit Cardiff City Stadium this Friday.
Lastly, Aaron Mooy took the plaudits in Huddersfield's 2-0 home victory over Wolves, so omitting the set-piece Australian against a Brighton side who struggle away from home was never in doubt. Alex Pirtchard was the unfortunate player who misses out, with the out-of-position midfielder (playing as a Forward) was everywhere against Wolves and lucky not to nab a brace himself.
FPL Gameweek 14: Forward Selections
1) Sergio Aguero (MCI): £11.5m - vs. Bournemouth (H)
2) Alvaro Morata (CHE): £8.7m - vs. Fulham (H)
3) Harry Kane (TOT): £12.3m - vs. Arsenal (a)
4) Salomon Rondon (NEW): £5.7m - vs. West Ham (H)
5) Raul Jimenez (WOL): £5.9m - vs. Cardiff (a)
'Top 6' sides dominate our Forward selections this week, with another home game for Sergio Aguero. Gameweek 13 was the first time this season that Sergio Aguero did not score or assist against a side that was not a 'Top 6' team from last season (ARS, TOT and LIV). Aguero was not involved in any of Man City's goals in a 4-0 win away at West Ham. Aguero has managed 7 goals and 6 assists at home and has just managed a single goal away from home.
Alvaro Morata gets the benefit of the doubt given his home game against Fulham, whilst Harry Kane's impressive record against Arsenal means he also gets benefit of the doubt, though with Kane he is in some form with three successive Fantasy returns and if Spurs play half as well as they did against Chelsea, Kane will be in line for points at The Emirates.
Lower down the pecking order is Raul Jimenez who nearly scored last week against Huddersfield, has a goal and two assists in his last 3 games, whilst Salomon Rondon's last home game yielded a brace. Both are the go-to budget options ahead of Gameweek 14.
