CAPTAINCY HYPE: THE ESSENTIAL PICK

Our Essential picks for captain are selected each and every week on our main Twitter account, @RealHypeTrain, with four highly selected FPL options battling it out for alpha status amongst fellow FPL players.

Gameweek 32: Essential

Player: Mohamed Salah (LIV)

Position: Midfielder

Player Price: £10.7 million

Player Selection %: 62.5%

CAPTAINCY HYPE: THE ALTERNATIVE PICK

Our Alternative selection for captain typically commands a smaller FPL ownership percentage, but can be reserved for The Hype Train's own gut instincts on who could be captaincy inspiration.

Gameweek 32: Alternative

Player: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ARS)

Position: Forward

Player Price: £10.6 million

Player Selection %: 9.4%

CAPTAINCY HYPE: THE WILDCARD PICK

Our Wildcard selection is one of the ten differential picks that is featured in our Weekly Wildcards article. This captaincy selection has a very small percentage of owners in the FPL, and is our left field option.

Gameweek 32: Wildcard

Player: Ashley Barnes (BUR)

Position: Forward

Player Price: £5.3 million

Player Selection %: 2.3%

We could have picked anyone to be the differential captain, we could have chanced an Arsenal win with Mesut Özil, we could have put the armband on an out-of-form Alexis Sanchez, what about Kenedy at home to Huddersfield? There are flashy options everywhere this week, but there is one fact that cannot be ignored this week…West Brom are there for the taking, each week on the Baggies current run of form. There are good fixtures for captains this week, but we expect that most people will be saying “I saw that one coming” when they are defeated just again.

Ashley Barnes Key Stats:

  1. West Brom won the last encounter between the two sides, courtesy of a solitary Hal Robson-Kanu goal being the difference. Burnley didn’t score in the encounter.

  2. West Brom are on a seven-game losing streak, conceding two or more goals in six of the matches.

  3. The last time that West Brom won at home was during GW23 when they beat Brighton 2-0, Evans and Dawson scored in the last win.

  4. West Brom have won only three games all season (W3, D11, L17).

  5. Ashley Barnes has scored in three consecutive fixtures; his goals game against Southampton, Everton, and West Ham. Barnes picked up only two bonus points from these three games combined.

  6. Meanwhile, Burnley haven’t lost in their last three consecutive fixtures and are looking to make it three wins out of three against West Brom.

  7. Burnley’s last away game was a 3-0 at West Ham, with Barnes scoring.

Barnes may not be a flashy superstar captain, but he is an effective player who has proven his form over several weeks. The Burnley forward is an underrated pick for the armband.
