FANTASY FORECAST 2017/18: FPL Gameweek 25

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League the Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2017/18 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Fixture Prediction: Gameweek 25

Swansea 0-2 Arsenal

West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace

Huddersfield 0-3 Liverpool

Chelsea 2-0 Bournemouth

Everton 1-2 Leicester

Newcastle 0-0 Burnley

Southampton 1-0 Brighton

Man City 4-0 West Brom

Spurs 2-1 Man United

Stoke 1-0 Watford

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 25

Best GW Attacking Options:

Arsenal (H) vs. Swansea

Crystal Palace (A) vs. West Ham

Liverpool (A) vs. Huddersfield

Chelsea (H) vs. Bournemouth

Leicester (A) vs. Everton

Man City (H) vs. West Brom

Spurs (H) vs. Man United

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Arsenal (H) vs. Swansea

Liverpool (A) vs. Huddersfield

Chelsea (H) vs. Bournemouth

Man City (H) vs. West Brom

Stoke (H) vs. Watford

Southampton (H) vs. Brighton

Newcastle (H) vs. Burnley

Burnley (A) vs. Newcastle

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Jack Butland (GK), Marcos Alonso (DEF), Riyad Mahrez (MID), Sergio Aguero (FW)

OUT: Thibaut Courtois (GK), Phil Jones (DEF), Sadio Mane (MID), Alvaro Morata (FW)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Southampton defenders.

Liverpool midfielders.

Newcastle defenders.

Burnley defenders.

Stoke forwards.

Leicester midfielders.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Chelsea: With Alvaro Morata injured, the Blues are finally scoring. Eden Hazard is unburdened, Willian has been given an opportunity, and Morata isn’t aimlessly wandering about. The Blues should easily dispatch Bournemouth.

Man City: Still cruising the league, still the best team in the league. West Brom at home should be one of them easy to predict encounters.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Watford: The Hornets are in free fall, and against a resurgent Stoke City it will be hard to see how they pick up a result against Paul Lamberts team.

Man United: Jose’s team travel to Wembley for what will be an incredibly competitive match, so it is a hard match to call. There will most likely be goals on either side, and I have opted for a Spurs win.

Spurs: The North London team host Man United, but the Red Devil’s are in-form defensively, so guessing the result will be a tough call on either side.

GW Differential Picks:

Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Arsenal could start strong.

Alexis Sanchez could also strike on his Premier League debut.

Virgil van Dijk could finally get the Liverpool defence in order.

Jack Butland could continue impressing during Paul Lamberts’ new beginning at Stoke.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Sergio Aguero – The only pick where I feel comfortable with the captaincy being placed on this Gameweek. City dominate, and Aguero is back on the hype train.

(VC) Mohamad Salah – Perhaps the only bright spark from Liverpool’s crash out of the FA Cup was the involvement of the King of Egypt. Scoring the Reds second goal during their efforts to come back to beat West Brom, and now with a fire underneath them Liverpool should hit back against Huddersfield. Salah is still a goal scorer.

Other Gameweek Comments:

After the FA Cup rattled the cages of most Premier League teams, I expect the dreaded ‘rotation’ word will be in the mix again. The transfer deadline day is also on the first day of action, so all the players with any doubts will probably be doubtful.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Salah, Sterling, Alonso, Monreal, Shaqiri, Walker

OUT: Arnautovic, Danilo, and anyone potentially in a blank Gameweek for GW31

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Stoke defenders and midfielders.

Bournemouth attackers (save them up for the following weeks).

Leicester options.

My gut is to say hold off on too many transfers, Sturridge might be an option soon, as will a few new faces with the transfer window slamming shut soon.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Spurs - They might just turn up here in a big way.

Stoke - Watford bad. Stoke half-decent in Lambert's first game.

Liverpool - I will be very, very surprised if The Reds lose this game. Huddersfield are a job-squad at home against 'bigger' sides, and if Liverpool are half a football team they should win here.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

West Ham - They have no team.

Swansea - Wenger will probably see that lightening doesn't strike twice with a 'Top 6' club visiting The Liberty.

Newcastle: We can't score and Burnley can defend.

GW Differential Picks:

Xherdan Shaqiri (STK) - A run of four good fixtures, no FA Cup football, and still in the Starting 11 under Paul Lambert, Shaqiri could be a great pick.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Mohamed Salah - If you don't have Aguero in your team, Salah is your guy, and I'm blindly backing my actual captain to perform after a few terrible weeks.

(VC) Sergio Aguero - West Brom might surprise a few people, so I think the score won't be as big as pre-advertised.

Other Gameweek Comments:

After the torrid time I've been having in the FPL as of late I'm almost done caring for the season, so a lot of my selections are just here or there because I'm just going through the motions. I've never wanted a season to end more than I have this one.

On a less personal note, I am hoping that the FPL returns to some normality, but I think the beginning of an even worse period of Blank Gameweek's is just over the horizon to throw our teams into turmoil again.

Other Gameweek Comments:

This is the time in the season where everything is up in the air, and there's an abundance of potential point-makers. Choose the option that feels like the best fit for your team! Don't just bring in Kane, Aguero, and Sanchez all willy-nilly and destroy the rest of your team! Striking the right balance will be key for the remainder of the season.
