FPL FORECAST 2016/17: Gameweek 38
Each and every week the three members of The Hype Team post their Premier League and FPL predictions in an attempt to enlighten players that might be stuck with their FPL choices and transfers. In addition, we’ll be taking on a guest for every Gameweek in the PL. On the weekly agenda are a general predictions category, a Gameweek Fantasy Premier League forecast, scout picks, and captaincy choices. For Gameweek 38 we welcome @FPLKangaroo as our final guest of the season. All aboard.
Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 38 Deadline
For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.
The transfer deadline for GW38 is Sunday 21st May at 14:00pm.
How does our Forecasting work?
We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of the first edition of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interest parties.
Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions (Mark Lawrenson style, only less biased, hopefully) and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast.A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.
FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, the wildcard differential players, and general analysis and comments.
Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)
Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).
Fixture Prediction: 2016/17 Points Table
In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Chelsea 3-0 Sunderland
Hull 0-4 Spurs
Leicester 2-2 Bournemouth
Liverpool 2-0 Middlesbrough
Manchester United 0-0 Crystal Palace
Southampton 1-1 Stoke City
Swansea 1-0 West Brom
Watford 1-3 Man City
FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 38
Best GW Attacking Options:
Spurs (A) vs. Hull
Liverpool (H) vs. Middlesbrough
Man City (A) vs. Watford
Chelsea (H) vs. Sunderland
Bournemouth (A) vs. Leicester
Burnley (H) vs. West Ham
Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:
Spurs (A) vs. Hull
Liverpool (H) vs. Middlesbrough
Chelsea (H) vs. Sunderland
Swansea (H) vs. West Brom
Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:
IN: Ben Chillwell, Daniel Sturridge, Harry Kane, Gabriel Jesus, Josh King.
OUT: Diego Costa, Marcus Rashford, Manolo Gabbiadini.
Who are the teams to look out for?:
Liverpool: Easy home game versus Middlesbrough.
Chelsea: Easy home game versus Sunderland.
Spurs: Easy away game versus Hull City.
I have realised that it seems eerily convenient that Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, and even Man United have games against the teams lingering at the bottom and touted for relegation on the final day. Bias, what bias?
Who are the teams to avoid?:
Arsenal: The biggest test for Arsenal is not to lose to an Everton team that spanked them earlier in the season, I am going for a draw because I think that the teams are evenly matched currently and both in good stead. Liverpool need their neighbours to do them a favour and I think they will.
Leicester: After being destroyed by Spurs on Thursday it could be another long afternoon with Joshua King leading the Bournemouth attack. The King visits the King Power for what should be an entertaining fixture, but one that Leicester may struggle in. Last season don’t forget the Cherries held the Foxes to a goalless draw
GW Differential Picks:
Ben Davies: Spurs's only fit full-back has a lock in the team right now, and after registering an assist for Kane in Spurs decimation of Leicester you can only imagine what is going to happen at Hull City on Sunday.
Axel Tuanzebe: Why not? Man United are obtaining 0-0’s like a librarian collects books.
FPL Captaincy Picks:
(C): Daniel Sturridge – I’m going full wildcard for captaincy this week, I believe that it is do-or-die for Liverpool against Boro and they need their big hitters playing. Sturridge has returned at the right time and with Divock Origi partnering him it could be another game like the one we saw against West Ham with Sturridge getting into the right positions after Origi takes away the defenders. Hopefully the man with the dance can teleport back me to 2013/14 when he was a staple of my fantasy team that year.
(VC): Marcos Alonso – My player of the season, fleeting left wing back Marcos Alonso has been sensational since joining the starting eleven for the Blues. I’ve had the Spaniard in my team early on this season and I haven’t removed him all season, so he gets my pick to become vice captain due to my fledging loyalty. Sunderland at home should be another easy test and nice little wrap party for Chelsea, and Alonso deserves to lift that trophy on Sunday.
Other Gameweek Comments:
Expect fresh faces, lots of goals, or plenty of clean sheets. Expect madness, injuries, chaos, penalties, and Tony Pulis screaming at everyone and everything. The last day of the Premier League is an oddity because by now everything has been settled bar a few positions, so normally it is a free for all, but all I know is that Manchester United will still be on second in the running for Match of the Day after they battle another draw against Crystal Palace.

FPL Captaincy Picks: (C): Harry Kane: 5 goals and an assist last week. He's the front runner for the golden boot and won't want to let that slip.
(VC): Gabriel Jesus: the young Brazilian has taken no time at all to prove his worth. Playing as a lone striker or just off Aguero goals are likely and he is one to keep an eye on next year.

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 38
Best GW Attacking Options:
Spurs (A) vs. Hull
Liverpool (H) vs. Middlesbrough
Man City (A) vs. Watford
Chelsea (H) vs. Sunderland
Burnley (H) vs. West Ham
Swansea (H) vs. West Brom
Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:
Spurs (A) vs. Hull
Liverpool (H) vs. Middlesbrough
Chelsea (H) vs. Sunderland
Southampton (H) vs. Stoke
Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:
IN: Liverpool assets, Llorente and Sigurdsson, Sam Vokes or Ashley Barnes
OUT: Gabbiadini, Rashford, Cedric
Who are the teams to look out for?:
All of the top six with exception to Man United. Southampton and Leicester could also get wins. Swansea look primed for a big final day. The big surprise could be Crystal Palace, who are going to United to climb the table and earn more money. United will be fielding a weakened team, almost certainly.
Who are the teams to avoid?:
Man United - The kids are playing with Palace playing for the £££
Middlesbrough - Hopeless
Sunderland - Beyond hopeless
Watford - Beyond oblivion
Stoke - Not scoring
West Brom - Also not scoring
GW Differential Picks:
Daniel Sturridge: An FPL darling of the past will raise questions of his value with a goal against Boro on the final day. Will Klopp oust the Studge?
Wilfried Zaha?: Man United are ripe for the taking, and Zaha is the man to do it, against his former club.
FPL Captaincy Picks:
(C): The Hurrikane – Come on, Kane is the outright number one pick this week, which means he'll probably blank and Spurs will lose 5-1. Oh wait, that happened last year as well, didn't it?
(VC): Alexis Sanchez – Throwing my captaincy options from DGW37 around this week, with Alexis getting pegged down to second place. He's in form against an Everton side who have finished 7th, with no room for improvement.
Other Gameweek Comments:
Lukaku to score on a last appearance for Everton?
Ross Barkley to do the same?
Coutinho for similar reasons?
Leko to play on the last day for WBA (like last season)?
Chelsea to play their first eleven against Sunderland heading into the FA Cup final against Arsenal?
Crystal Palace to keep beating the 'big boys'?
Burnley to finish strong at home?
Southampton to ensure a potential Europa League position?

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:
IN: Philippe Coutinho, Diego Costa, Alexis Sanchez, Harry Kane, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne, Josh King, Jamie Vardy, Cesc Fabregas, Gylfi Sigurdsson.
OUT: Players from Watford, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, & Hull. In addition, you should probably get rid of your Man Utd players as Mourinho stated in his post-match interview on Wednesday night that he intends to play the kids against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Who are the teams to look out for?:
Arsenal - Still have a chance of finishing top 4 and playing Everton who are on the beach.
City - Not yet guaranteed finishing in top 4 and playing Watford who are also on the beach.
Liverpool – Fighting for top 4 and playing Middlesbrough who are already relegated.
Chelsea - They will want to put on a show for their fans before lifting the premier league trophy and are playing the worst team in the league.
Spurs – They have just destroyed Leicester 6-1 and I fancy another big score-line on Sunday against relegated Hull.
Leicester & Bournemouth – Both teams concede goals for fun and I don’t see this changing on Sunday. This match will have goals.
Who are the teams to avoid?:
Pretty much all of the away teams except for Man City, Spurs & Bournemouth.
GW Differential Picks:
Daniel Sturridge (LIV) – The chap is made of glass but when he is fit he is one of the best finishers in the league. He scored in GW37 against the Hammers and looked pretty good so I see him starting & scoring again against Middlesbrough.
Oliver Giroud (ARS) – I actually hate the guy he’s too good looking but in fairness to him he has scored a few goals lately and also scored a hat-trick in GW38 last season against Villa so I think he is a great shout for this weekend. Arsenal will also be in all-out-attack mode trying to get into the top 4.
John Terry (CHE) - Will be Terry’s last ever game for Chelsea so he will want to go out with a bang. I can see him getting a clean sheet and maybe a trademark John Terry goal from a corner which we have been accustomed to seeing down through the years. Also, if Chelsea manage to get a penalty Terry might step up to take it. Whether he scores it is a different matter !
FPL Captaincy Picks:
(C): Harry Kane (TOT) – After his sensational display on Thursday night away at Leicester, it’s hard to overlook Kane for the captain’s armband this week. Kane has 7 goals & 3 assists in his last 6 matches since coming back from his foot injury. The 4 goals he scored against Leicester mean he now has over taken Lukaku as the league’s leading goal scorer and will fancy his chances of scoring a few more away at Hull on Sunday. Hull have just been officially relegated and will have nothing to play for.
(VC): Alexis Sanchez (ARS) – The Chilean is on fire at the moment with 4 goal & an assist in his last 3 games. He also has an outside chance of grabbing the golden boot from Kane, giving his current form and the fact Arsenal need to beat Everton. Can he score four goals against Everton to overtake Kane?Well, stranger things have happened. Bear in mind, Arsenal seem to end the season on a high as they have scored 4 goals in GW38 in each of the previous two seasons.
Other Gameweek Comments:
Just to note, GW38 historically has an above average number of goals compared to the regular GW average throughout the season. This is particularly the case for home sides who are looking to impress their own fans before the summer break. For example, in GW38 last season, some of the big home wins included Arsenal 4-0 Villa, Everton 3-0 Norwich Newcastle 5-1 Spurs & Sot’on 4-1 Palace. And in the 2014/15 season, some of the notable matches in GW38 included Arsenal 4-1 West Brom, Chelsea 3-1 Sunderland, Stoke 6-1 Liverpool & Leicester 5–1 QPR. For this reason, I think loading up attackers from home sides looks key. Good time to use your AOA chip if you still have it also.
